About Us

TMVSA was first formed under the name VSAR in 1990 as a means for Vietnamese students at Toronto Metropolitan University (Formerly Ryerson University) to work together as a collective as well as to promote their heritage and roots. In 2022, following the renaming of Ryerson University, VSAR was renamed TMVSA to better represent the community and affiliated institutions. TMVSA hosts many events throughout the year for members to socialize and take a break from schoolwork; however, leadership development is also promoted through opportunities offered by TMVSA in association with affiliated groups. TMVSA represents the Vietnamese community of Toronto Metropolitan annually at the Student Learning Centre (SLC) Multicultural Show and various Toronto Metropolitan University-sponsored performances throughout the school year.

In addition to hosting events for members on campus, TMVSA also collaborates with Vietnamese Student Associations (VSA) across Eastern Canada as a member of the United Vietnamese Student Associations Eastern Canada (UVSAEC). TMVSA participates annually in the UVSAEC hosted IGNITE Cultural Show, in which various VSAs across Eastern Canada gather to perform culturally relevant acts based on a chosen theme each year. TMVSA has had success and placed in the top three VSAs several times in the past.

Internationally, TMVSA works with the Union of North American Vietnamese Students Associations (UNAVSA), which was formed in 2004 as a means for VSAs across North America to collaborate and form a collective voice. As TMVSA continues to work with various

VSAs across North America through the networks that have been created from UNVSA, TMVSA ensures that the organization is constantly growing and improving. This enables TMVSA to continue its commitment to developing strong leaders and providing many opportunities for its members.
