Just like in Canada where there are "dream" universities to a lot of students and their parents because of their word-class quality and reputable education, there are also post-secondary institutions in Vietnam that most parents wish upon their children.
In this issue of VSAR SUN, we're excited to share with you the top 5 universities in Vietnam and the reason for their high ranks.
1) Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU)
One of the most prestigious universities and research institutes in Vietnam as it operates under the direct command of the government. As such, the university plays a vital role in setting the standard for the country's education system.
Because of its excellence in training and teaching, the university is a dream institution for lots of students. In 2020, it was included in the QS top 50 under 50 universities, along with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh city. The list celebrates world's best universities that were established within the past 50 years.
VNU, Hanoi is known for its brilliance in multiple undergraduate and graduate programs such as sciences, technology, and economics. The university currently has 7 members, such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Languages and Foreign Studies, the University of Engineering and Technology, etc. Each of the member universities meets the high standard set out by VNU and excels in one specialized field.
2) Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST)
Founded in 1956, HUST was the first technical university in Vietnam. During the period of development and the fight for Southern liberation, HUST played a critical role as the university educates and grow industrial engineers.
The university started with only 14 programs of 4 multidisciplinary: Electrical Engineering, Mining-Metallurgy, Construction, and Food Chemistry. As of now, the university has 23 institutes, 3 faculties, and 15 centers to instruct and educate future generations to become engineers, masters, doctors, and researchers.
The mission of HUST is to bring values and benefits to the community and the society through quality training, education, and researches in order to contribute to the continuing effort to modernize and industrialize Vietnam, maintain and develop national defence as well as Vietnam's education system.
Recently, in 2020, the university was listed in the World University Rankings in the top #301-400 for universities offering technology and engineering.
Fun fact: It is often joked by HUST students that failing a subject is normal as eating while passing a subject on the first try is abnormal.
3) Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA)
The leading university in agricultural education and under the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
The university stated its mission as to train and provide a skilled and competent work force to contribute to Vietnam's agricultural development and international integration.
Since its establishment, the university has received countless awards and recognition for its excellence in providing quality training and education, such as the Ministry of Education and Training awards and Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Agriculture. VNUA also cooperates with international institutions to provide the best experience and quality education to its students
4) Can Tho University (CTU)
All the universities on the list so far are from the capital city of Vietnam, Hanoi. Ranked #4 on the list is one from the Mekong Delta, Can Tho city.
CTU is one of the 3 universities of Vietnam that is included in AUN-ASEAN University Network. Besides being at #4 nationally, CTU is ranked #60 among universities in Southeast Asia by Webometrics and in the rank of #301-350 among universities in Asia in 2018.
CTU has three programs that were honoured and awarded by ASEAN University Network (AUN) for their quality, which are aligned with AUN standard: Biotechnology and Farming as well as Agricultural Economics. This success is partly because of the high quality of professors recruited and trained by CTU, with 95% of them having postgraduate degrees from different developed countries in the world. The facilities and teaching materials are modern and properly maintained. As the result, more than 90% of graduates are able to find jobs in Vietnam and abroad.
5) Hanoi University of Education (HNUE)
HNUE was established as part of the country's determination and wish to train great quality teachers and professors for all levels of education. Since its founding on October 11th, 1951, HNUE has been accredited by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and stays the leading pedagogical university, and is known as the cradle of training teachers and professors of the country.
HNUE is home to a lot of notable alumni that are clever scientists and reputable poets. These alumni have contributed a lot to Vietnam and stay near and dear to the public's hearts.
HNUE's faculty are prestigious experts and leaders not only domestically but also global-wide.
