In Vietnam, summer approaching may be the joy for most students, but for the 12 graders, it is a signal for a stressful exam season ahead.
Often taken place during mid June, this national-wide exam is how students get their high-school diplomas and get admitted into their choice of university.
This highly competitive exam is considered the most important exam to Vietnamese students, as getting a post-secondary education is often considered the only way to become successful in the future.
THE EXAM & PREPARATION
The exam is consisted of 3 compulsory tests: maths, literature, and a foreign language (usually English), with one optional subject from natural sciences (physics, chemistry, and biology) and social sciences (history, geography, and physics).
Before the exam, students will list and apply to their choices of university. After the exam results are available, they will be accepted into the universities based on their scores, if they satisfy the universities announced minimum scores.
A lot of students start preparing for this important exam one to two years prior by going to extracurricular classes outside of their regular school hours. They are often super busy and have classes from morning to night.
D-DAY
On this day, sights of parents taking their sons/daughters to the location of the test can be seen. Wishes are said and encouragement are given from parents, hoping that their children will do well without being too stressed out.

Dishes containing beans are often given to students to eat for breakfast since its Vietnamese name is homonym to the word "pass" while anything related to failing or slipping, like banana, is avoided.
